Who is Athene?
Athene(uh THEE nee) is the virgin goddess of intellect, invention, wisdom, strategy and war. She is also a goddess associated
with mentoring heroes.
Unlike Ares, who was hot-headed and undependable in battle, Athene's domain was strategy and tactics.
One of her companions is Nike, goddess of victory, and her symbols include her favorite animal, the owl; her created tree,
the olive; the Aegis, (Zeus's shield, which displays the head of Medusa); her helmet; and her spear.
In Greek mythology Athene was the protectress of heroes; she stands faithfully at the side of those she has chosen to
support, leading them, aiding them, and spurring them onwards to achieve what is difficult, even impossible.
